Holidays in Velturno in Valle Isarco
VelturnoThe beautiful village Velturno (Feldthurns) lies at 851 m above sea level on a sunny high terrace embedded in mountain pastures, orchards and chestnut groves. The village has beautiful farmhouses and picturesque old manors. A cultural highlight is the castle Velturno, the most important Renaissance building in South Tyrol. It used to be the summer residence of the prince-bishops of Bressanone, the magnificent prince salon has an impressive tiled stove by the stove-fitter Paul Pidenhofer of Bolzano. The castle organizes numerous concerts and conventions throughout the year. The complex also houses a museum of local history with a collection of peasant instruments for viniculture and wood processing. The spire of the parish church has slightly tilted to one side because of bad fundament. The summers are ideal for walks or hikes in the surroundings, on one of the various walking paths or hiking trails, or for swimming in the outdoor pool of the village. |
