Holiday Area Rosengarten Latemar

Holidays in Rosengarten Latemar

The holiday area Rosengarten Latemar lies in the legendary mountain area of King Laurin, a low mountain region surrounded by the Dolomite massif.
It extends itself to the west of the massif Latemar, to the Val d’Adige valley in the south and to the Val d’Ega valley.
In the evenings the pallid Dolomite rocks become magnificent, at sun set they shine in a lovely red colour.

According to the legend this breathtaking alpenglow developed at the end of the battle between the dwarfish original inhabitants and the intruders, at the end of which King Laurin cursed his blooming rose garden.
The rose garden should be cursed day and night, because its beauty gave him away.
As he forgot to mention the twilight, the Rosengarten shines in the evening.

Between the Rosengarten in the North and the Latemar Group in the South, lies the Passo di Costalunga pass, the border between the provinces South Tyrol and Trentino.

The famous great Dolomite round passes the Costalunga pass going up from Bolzano and going down into the neighbouring Val di Fassa valley, it then passes the Passo Pordoi and the Passo Falzarego passes and finally arrives in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The big Dolomite street is one of the nicest high Alpine streets and is driveable all year round.

At the Passo di Costalunga pass you also find Europe’s highest golf course, with 9 holes, embedded in a breathtaking natural landscape.
Monte S. Pietro has an 18-hole golf course.

You can also discover the enchanting landscape of this holiday region on horseback or on foot.
The Passo di Costalunga pass is a great starting point for excursions in the fantastic Dolomite landscape.
Well marked hiking trails also lead to the Rosengarten group which together with Tires and the Valle di Ciamin valley belong to the nature park Sciliar. In the Nature Park House Sciliar you can receive information on the well marked paths of the preserve.

If you are fit you can discover the whole Rosengarten group in a mountain tour of only one day with 14 hours of walking time, a great experience you will not forget.
The unique Carezza lake (Lago di Carezza) at 1.514 m is one of the nicest lakes in the entire Dolomite area, the pallid Latemar towers are reflected in the crystal clear water.
100 m above the lake you can find a beautiful holiday settlement. The centre is formed by the erstwhile Grandhotel Karersee, a large hotel that belonged to the noble hotels of the Belle Epoque.

In this magnificent mountain world between Rosengarten and Latemar we also find the Ski Center Latemar and the Ski Area Carezza counting 31 modern ski lifts and more than 80 km of slopes. They transform the holiday region into a winter paradise for families, also offering skiing and tobogganing/sledging by night and a magical ski safari for children based on the King Laurin legend.

The holiday areas Monte S. Pietro, Nova Ponente, Ega, Obereggen, Nova Levante and Carezza offer partly free ski busses several times a day.

The holiday village Tires is also connected to the Alpe di Siusi plateau and the Passo di Costalunga pass by a ski bus, the resort is also great for snowshoeing hikes.
