Valle Isarco
Holidays in Val di Funes in Valle Isarco
Val di Funes valleyThe Val di Funes Valley begins with the lush vineyards of the Val Isarco Valley and climbs until it reaches the powerful rock massifs of the Dolomites. The peaceful town folk, the sleepy hamlets and the scattered farmhouses have maintained over the centuries their uniqueness and peace, which make holidays here so relaxing. Funes is the name for the entire valley, not just a single town. The valley has an East-West orientation, extending from the Geisler Group to its outlet in the Val Isarco Valley north of Chiusa. This orientation of the valley and its special geological structure – characterized by the overlaying of geological younger formations by older quartz phyllite – dominate the landscape and had a marked influence upon its settlement. The community of the Val di Funes Valley consists of six municipal districts and various hamlets: Tiso, San Valentino, San Giacomo, Colle and Santa Maddalena. The little town San Pietro is the main town of the valley. Especially interesting and worth seeing is the Mineral Museum of Tiso with many valuable rock crystals and the famous “Teiser Kugeln” (beautiful minerals that can be founded in this area). The small village lies on a sunny hill above the entrance to the valley. |
