Sights

The magnificent Valle d’Anterselva valley (Antholzertal) at a height of 1.030 m to 1.642 m above sea level is situated about 10 km to the east of Brunico.

The beginning of the valley is wide, the back of the valley is narrow and has a high alpine character.
A characteristic feature of the Valle d’Anterselva valley are the many scattered farms.
In the east the nature preserve Vedrette di Ries offers many hiking possibilities for the entire family.
The valley is internationally known because of the biathlon world championships. It also offers a large amount of cross country skiing runs.

The first village of the valley is Rasun di Sotto (Niederrasen), close by we find an urn burial of the 8th to 6th century BC, one of the major archaeological places of discovery in South Tyrol.

Opposite to Rasun di Sopra (Oberrasen) we have the residence Heufler with pompous panelled Renaissance rooms. A hiking trail leads up to the ruin of the castle Neurasen and on to the earth pyramids.

In the village Anterselva di Sotto stands the church St. Walburga with a fresco of Saint Christophorus, said to be of the famous Pacher school of painting. The village Anterselva di Mezzo forms the centre of the holiday valley.

From Anterselva di Sopra you get to the Anterselva lake and the biathlon centre. The blue-green lake is framed by the mountain scenery of the Vedrette di Ries. Close by Tibetian Yaks graze in the meadows, they were given to a biathlete from Anterselva by the world famous mountaineer Reinhold Messner. By passing the Stalle pass you reach the Austrian Deferegger Tal valley.
