Holidays in Caldaro & Lago di Caldaro
CaldaroWhen talking about Caldaro (Kaltern), situated at a height of 426 m above sea level, you think of the beautiful lake, the Lago di Caldaro (Kalterer See) and of Europe’s most famous red wines. The Lake Caldaro is the largest lake in South Tyrol and one of the warmest swimming lakes in the Alps. On the west shore you can find a new open air pool with access to the lake, the reeds of the south shore are nesting sites for water birds. The Mendola funicular railway in S. Antonio takes you up to the Mendola Pass at 1.363 m of height, the nostalgic cable car is 4,5 km long and has a maximum inclination of 65%. For people that enjoy sport, Caldaro offers wonderful cycle tracks and many walking and hiking trails around the lake and in the magnificent landscape of the area. The village itself has a picturesque centre with a neo-Classical parish church, the churches St. Catherine, St. Antonius and St. Nicholas. The South Tyrolean Wine Museum, in the centre of Caldaro gives an insight in the wine culture of South Tyrol. The museum also offers wine tasting and is definitely worth visiting. |
