Holidays in Brunico in Val Pusteria
City of Brunico (Bruneck)The city of Brunico (Bruneck) is situated at 835 m above sea levels and is the main resort of the Val Pusteria valley. It lies in the wide green basin into which from the north the Valle di Tures valley and in the south the Val Gardena valley lead. The old town is grouped round the picturesque hill with the castle. A stroll through the nice town alleys with their historic town houses and raised stands is worthwhile, amongst them the house of Michael Pacher, a famous painter and wood carver. The Ursuline church, the church of St. Catherine, the four old town gates with an entrance arch and the round gate on the bridge above the river Rienz are worth visiting. The same goes for the late-baroque spittle church on the other side of the river with altar pictures of Franz Unterberger. The town museum of graphic design with affiliated artists workshop exhibits graphics of regional and international artists, Gothic artworks and xylographs of Albrecht Dürer. The South Tyrolean state museum in Dietenheim is very popular, this open-air museum shows numerous historical buildings of all the areas of South Tyrol. Every year at the end of October the famous Stegona market is organized, the largest market of the whole of Tyrol. Visitors come from everywhere to look for good offers, to bargain and meet people. It is highly recommendable to go up onto the Plan de Corones (2.272 m), an aerial cable cabin goes to the summit in two sections. This mountain is very rich in snow and is linked from three sides with more than 30 modern ski lifts. Brunico has many hiking trails and cycle tracks for the summer. |
