Holidays in Val d'Ultimo valley
Val d’Ultimo valleyThe municipality of Ultimo (Ulten) is formed by the fractions S. Valburga, S. Gertrude and S. Nicolò. The main locality is S. Valburga (St. Walburga) at a height of 1.192 m above sea level, a small village on a sunny hillside. The church St. Maurice with frescos of the 15th century, shows peasant culture and folkloristic works of art which are worth a visit. For centuries the Val d’Ultimo valley (Ultental) was quite isolated from the world and still now the valley is very tranquil. The five artificial lakes almost seem natural lakes in the landscape. A nice path accessible to people in wheelchairs goes around the artificial lake Zoccolo. There are many old beautiful mountain farms on the steep hillsides. Near S. Gertrude you can become testimony of a particularity of nature, over 2000 year old larches grow there with a circumference of up to 8 m. The ski resort Schwemmalm is a magnificent skiing area for the entire family with its great slopes, the family-friendly toboggan run and beautiful cross country runs. |
