Holidays in Fortezza in Valle Isarco
FortezzaThe village Fortezza (Franzensfeste) is situated at a height of 747 m above sea level and lies in the lowlands of the Valle Isarco valley. It developed out of a railway settlement, as adjacent train station into the Val Pusteria valley. Here we find the fortress Fortezza - Franzensfeste that bars the valley. It was constructed in the years 1833-39 under the Austrian reign as a protection against the invasion from the south. The fortress is formed out of a few large parts that extend themselves on three levels and are connected one to another by a total of 452 steps. One part of the fortress will become an information centre for new mobility concepts crossing the Alps, like the Brenner Base Tunnel, in future it will also be used for art exhibitions. Fortezza is a holiday resort for active tourists who want to get to know a lot about the eastern part of South Tyrol. The Pusteria railway takes hikers, bikers and skiers to the famous winter and summer resorts of the Plan de Corones area and Alta Pusteria area. Moreover the picturesque cities Bressanone and Vipiteno can be easily and quickly reached by train and car. |
