Holidays in the Val Ridanna valley
Val Ridanna valleyThe Val Ridanna valley (Ridnauntal) lies at a height of 1.370 m above sea level It is a beautiful mountain valley with small holiday villages, embedded in green pastures and coniferous forests. Its vast lowlands are ideal for cross country ski runs and easy hikes with low difference in altitude. It is worth visiting castle Wolfsthurn above Mareta, it is said to be the nicest Baroque castle in South Tyrol and houses the hunting and fishing museum. By using an access at the west portal the castle is also accessible for people in wheelchairs. The miners’ chapel St. Magdalen in Gasse houses the largest art treasure of the valley, the late-Gothic wing altar of the master Stöberl from Vipiteno. Regarding mining the village Masseria at the end of the valley and the adjacent area of the Monteneve (snow mount) are very important. Monteneve was once the highest mine in Europe, now it is a mining museum with a show gallery. A very interesting nature trail goes through the former gallery and to the miner’s settlement S. Martino di Monteneve in the Val Passiria valley. |
