Scena (Schenna) at a height of 644 metres above se level is a popular holiday resort close to Merano. The village is situated on a very sunny hillside, the Ivigna peak towers above it.

Worthwhile visiting are the parish church with the mausoleum of the archduke Johann of Austria and the castle Scena. The castle used to be, and still is the summer residence for counts and has an arms and armament collection. A visit in the museum on the history of Tyrol is very interesting. Also worth visiting are the castle Gaiano, one of the oldest castles in the surroundings of Merano, and the Romanesque church of St. George.

Scena is one of the most important tourist resorts in South Tyrol and offers numerous sporting and recreational activities. The cablecars Taser, Verdines and Ivigna take hikers up to various mountain summits.

Scena also has an open air swimming pool with a panoramic view over the basin of Merano. In the surroundings of Scena you can visit the famous botanical garden, The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, it was nominated the most beautiful botanical garden in Italy.
