Holidays in Appiano on the Wine Road
AppianoAppiano (Eppan) is one of the most popular tourist resorts in South Tyrol and lies directly on the famous South Tyrolean Wine Road that connects nearly all wine villages of the area and runs through a picturesque landscape of vineyards and apple orchards. The main village S. Michele (St. Michael) lies at 471 m above sea level and is a pretty wine village with a picturesque centre and beautiful walking paths and cycling tracks. Main attractions are the parish church, the castles Gandegg, Freudenstein and Castel d’Appiano with a Romanesque fresco cycle of the year 1200. Castle Moos-Schulthaus houses a collection of old home décor with panelled sitting rooms and frescos. Attached to the castle is a gallery with work of arts of Tyrolean artists of the 20th century. Picturesque alleys, manors and vineyards are characteristic for the village S. Paolo (St. Pauls). It has a large Gothic church and to the west under the Mendola crest you can walk along a nice high panoramic hiking trail above Appiano, the Eppaner Höhenweg. Cornaiano (Girlan) is also beautifully positioned in a hilly landscape with vast vineyards and a magnificent scenery. At the eastern outskirts of the village you can find the sporting and recreational zone Rungg. In summer the two Montiggler lakes (Laghetti di Monticolo) are popular swimming lakes, surrounded by various cycle tracks. |
