Alpe di Siusi - Sciliar

Holiday Area Alpe di Siusi

Holidays in Alpe di Siusi

The Alpe di Siusi area (Seiser Alm) is Europe’s largest high-altitude plateau and is located in the world-famous Dolomites of South Tyrol.
The holiday area comprises not only the sunny high plateau, but also the lower situated holiday resorts Castelrotto, Siusi and Fiè.

Together with the Latemar and Sciliar in the south, Alpe di Siusi forms the nature park Sciliar-Latemar, an impressive protective landscape in the Dolomites which is confined in the north through the Gardena valley.

In the summer magnificent extensive walking tours lead the way along the wide sunny mountain pastures up to higher layers of the natural preserve. Hiking trails mark the paths that go past picturesque pastures up to craggy Dolomite rocks. Various refuges where drinks and food are served are popular as a point of rest and recreation during a day’s outing, further down the same services are offered by mountain shelters. Scattered along the paths you can admire the little wood cabins, a further picturesque focus in front of this stunning mountain scenery. The nature lover finds many rare animal and plant species, streams and swamp meadows.

It is clear that this unique landscape with its audacious mountains has lead to many mythological traditions about the Alpe di Siusi area. The tales and sagas about the Sciliar as witch-mountain are the most common. It is said that witches come from everywhere on their broomsticks and evoke intense thunderstorms.

A faster option is to go by horse-drawn carriage or ride a mountain bike, the beauty of nature of this vacation region can also be discovered from the bicycle saddle. In any case you need healthy muscular strength, the Alpe di Siusi is car-free to a large extent and therefore offers its guests seeking recreation a special kind of tranquillity and relaxation.

To be able to renounce to the own vehicle, the whole area of Castelrotto, Fiè, Siusi and the Pinei pass is connected by a shuttle service that takes hikers directly to the valley station of the Alpe di Siusi aerial cableway in the southern outskirts of Siusi.
A well accessible gondola cableway takes the wanderers from this modern mobility centre up to the Alpe di Siusi in about 15 minutes where further bus lines connect the Siusi areas between the parking place and/or the mountain station of the aerial cableway in Compatsch and go to Saltria, situated further back.

The only slightly ascending paths in the central area of Siusi, also offer guests in wheelchairs the possibility to discover the Alpe di Siusi and have a great day trip.

In winter the sunny slopes and the vast network of cross country ski runs and winter hiking trails offer a fantastic skiing holiday in South Tyrol for the whole family. The family friendly slopes that are linked through ski lifts to the world’s greatest skiing area network Dolomiti Superski guarantee the ultimate winter holiday. The holiday region Alpe di Siusi offers many possibilities of recreational sports activities all year round.

Especially the famous and exciting Oswald-von-Wolkenstein-Ride is very popular, it is organized in honour of the famous knight and poet on a weekend, at the end of May/beginning of June. The spectacular horse show on “Haflinger“ horses, from the area of Avalengo and local costume, unites sports and culture und attracts thousands of viewers every year.
